An interview with Eternal Tears Of Sorrow

Due my poor opinion Eternal Tears Of Tears through their latest offer "Children Of The Dark Waters" release one of the best album of the year and not only. Take by yourselves the oppurtunity to listen to and you understand what i mean. I thought it was important for us like a magazine to get an interview with such an important band in the metal genre. So here we are.
The interview is done with vocalist/bassist Altti Veteläinen.

1.Tell us about your new album Children Of The Dark Waters..Are you satisfied with it?

Altti: We're very satisfied with the new album. It's the strongest and the best album in all aspects and still after 3 months of release I
cannot think a single thing that should have been done differently on the album.

2.Is there something could be better?

Altti: Like said in previous answer, we're still 110% satisfied with everything. So don't have anything in my mind which could have been done
better this time.

3.For me is your best album so far, as I find more variety than ever and the strongest production you' ve produced so far. Whats your opinion about it?

Altti: Thank yo very much! It's really great to hear. I actually answered to this already in the first answer.

4.How could you describe your music style to someone that is not familiar with your music?

Altti: We don't like putting our music into any specific genre because they are usually so narrow. Our music have so much influences from
various of genres.. but if I have to make some description of our music, it would be something like symphonic and very melodic death metal with
influences from various metal genres...

5.What is the main topics of the new album lyrics? How important is for you the lyrics?

Altti: Many of the lyrical topics circulate around the Angelheart, Ravenheart saga, which started on the previous album. But it's not a
concept album after all. Lyrics are very important part of the music and it's important that the mood of th song and lyrical theme walk side by
side while listening to music.

6.With perfect to be the 10, how many points would you give to Children Of The Dark Waters?

Altti: I would give 9,5. Not that there's something that is bugging me..but There always need to be at least a little bit room for the
natural development on the next album.

7.Whats for you the best track from your new album?

Altti: I have many favourite tracks on the album, so cannot name only one. But for example the title track and then two last tracks as whole
are very strong songs and one of the best we have composed so far.

8. After so many years in Spinefarm, what happened and you change record company?

Altti: We wanted to go on on that side as well and seek for new cooperation partners. We were not completely happy about coopeartion
with Spinefarm, so why not to change to a better one.

9.Are you satisfied from Massacre records so far?

Altti: Our main label is Finnish Suomen Musiikki and Massacre is then licensing the album for other countries in Europe except FInland. We have
been very satisfied with cooperation with both labels so far.

10.How are you going to support the new album?

Altti: We are going to do shows to support and promote our album..both here in Finland and abroad.

11.Whats your expectations from this new release?

Altti: We hope that lots of new people will find our music and we get new fans. And the main thing of all is of course that people would like
what they hear on the new album.

12.Can you explain us the cover of the new album.

Altti: It is based on the album title track, which is telling the story of those poor little children, who were sacrificed to resurrect the
fallen soul of the Ravenheart.

13.What were your main influences for the creation of "Children Of The Dark Waters"?

Altti: There are far too many to name. We get influences from all music we're listening to..from the movies we're watching. For example I'm a
very big fan of Asian horror movies and they have surealy influenced the lyrical work for example on this new album. I would say that their
influence can be seen on the cover artwork as well.

14.How important is the environment you live for the making of your music?

Altti: I would say that it's important. We have always lived here in the Northern Finland and it has become part of us. I cannot think of
creating this dark and cold music somewhere else but here. Finnish nature and seasons have always been a very big influence to our music.

15.Do you live from the music? Whats your other interestings outside the music?

Altti: We have also dayjobs and Mika is still studying. Very few metal musicians can fully live their music over here..but it's very nice
second job and of course a big part of our lives. I personally do hunting and taekwondo on my free time. And big part of my free time goes
also with my family and my 2 years old son.

16.So how important is the band for your life?

Altti: It's very important and very big part of our lives..but it's not the most important thing. Our families come on the first place.

17.Can you tell us any tracks from some others bands which would like to be yours?

Altti: I admire for example Katatonia's music. They are just genious to create such dark atmosphere. I wish I can create something as strong as
they do with their music.

18.Can you tell us what were the best albums you have heard recently?

Altti: hmmm..lately I have been listening to Katatonia and Satyricon a lot.

19.whats your philosophy like a person?

Altti: Live you life well and don't miss it before it is already over.

20.Tell us your future plans

Altti: Well, the next step is to do some live performances with the band. And somewhere next year start writing new material with guys.

21.Anything I forgot to ask and you want to tell us?

Altti: At least I don't notice you have missed anything !

22.Last comments is yours...

Altti: Thank you very much for this interview and hope to see you on gigs at some point! Join the dark parade of those poor little children....
