DEMONIC RESURRECTION - THE RETURN TO DARKNESS

CANDLELIGHT RECORDS 2010

Release:   25-01-2010
Origin:     India
Length:  1:04:14

When you think that India is only delivering little kids to be adopted by foreigners from all over the world, than it is time to stop breeding the spawn and come to adopt Demonic Resurrection. These five Indians have grown up during their existence from 2000 till now and have created already a very impressive and grown up trilogy of albums ranging from symphonic metal earlier till progressive black and death metal nowadays.

Apart from these 3 albums also another split and EP were released between the last album “A Darkness Descends” and the new album “The Return To Darkness”. Since India was and is the birthplace of our technologised society, this can also be said from their musical approach towards the progressive, death and black metal scene combined with many symphonic and progressive elements. In a very clear and clean productional environment the first bands that come to mind are “Against the Plagues” and “A Hill To Die Upon”. Demonic Resurrection is performing perfectly and even expanding this (still unique) heavy black and death symphonic metal style.

Although the length of the album is over an hour, you won’t get bored or tired during listening. Every song is varied and strongly based by progressive keyboard symphonies, brutal and fast black metal attack’s, heavy and killing death metal riffs, but all still executed at a very technical and intelligent level, keeping the music fresh and refreshing. Vocals are diversified and contribute to this artificial level of music in general, for sure harsh and brutal black metal vocals (think of Dimmu Borgir’s Shagrath) and death metal styled (Behemoth) grunts are displayed here, but the more atmospheric normalised vocals, with some times the jazzy Cynic influences and spoken word parts, are in favour of the overall progressive picture of the album, leading to an outstanding and grown up album within the symphonic and progressive metal scene.

The overall production and attitude of this album is that although black and death metal influences are important, the focus of the outcome for this album must be the symphonic and progressive side. Sound, musical efforts and technical skills can be considered at the same level of the master’s of this scene: Dream Theater. When you get a notification of this band in your review, it indicates very well the power and quality of these Indians.

When this is going to be the new standard for symphonic black and death metal, our scene can be proud for being still that creative and innovative and can even adopt new “foreign” souls to (re)turn to the darkness.

Darkness shall prevail to resurrect the demonic powers!!
