DEMOS

The black Metal scene here in Victoria seems to get better and better, another quality band hailing from the states centre of Bendigo or Bendigoat as they refer to it is Infektion. A quality three piece who really appear to have the goods. I recently obtained two of their most recent demos, Heathen Realm and Death and Deliverance.

The first of the offerings Heathen Realm, which by the way is on cassette, is a solid piece. It features a cover of Burzum’s Lost Wisdom, which is really worth a listen, and for an 80’s throw back like me the cassette is a nice touch too, reminds me of the old tape trading days.

The second of the releases, Death and Deliverance (this one is on cd!), is a cracker, it has all the fundamental Black Metal elements. Featuring a couple more covers including a ripper version of Rotting Christ’s, Athanati Este. For me though it is their two original tracks that really set the pace. Title track “Death and Deliverance” is genius, with some of the best opening riffs I have heard from a local band in a long time. It is the perfect opening for the cd, and really is a Black Metal gem that highlights what these guys are capable of. The second and only other original track on the disc “I Murder thee”, crosses genres a bit with some of the guitar work taking on more of a groove feel.

It is always good to have a few covers in your repertoire, especially for live shows, but for me I think a young band of this quality really needs to push their own creativity, to gain their own identity. Hopefully with the next Infektion release we will see four or five new original tracks.

Overall both releases are very good, the production is quite good and not too over produced which is a trend so many Black Metal bands fall into nowadays. It is still raw enough to give it that underground sound and real dark edge.

I believe the guys are currently touring the country off the back of these releases, so make sure you get out there and support one of our newest Aussie Metal prospects.
