During the festivals it can be hot like hell with the enjoyment of the bands, while the sun is burning on your face you wish for a cloud to bring you shade and you beg for a refreshing and cooling rain. This is when the seasons are changing suddenly and a cold and sadistic refreshing shower is pouring down on you to leave you in silence.

Finally, all the way to fucking France to get my copy of Sadist last output “Season In Silence”. Shame on you Scarlet Records, for the perfect distribution, while this band and especially this CD deserves much more attention than just a passing cloud in the sky.

Therefore the delay in reviewing this album, but still I hope to bring a small change in your personal musical summer season. Like mentioned above the latest Sadist is like a change in the metal season and pours down intelligent, very well performed and produced crossover of death, light black and very melodic metal. These Italian guys were already above the light of the death metal stars with there very beautiful and filled with fantastic melodic guitar solos album in the year 1993, soon followed up with the more technical and superb “Tribe” CD in 1996. After these two “MUST HAVE” albums Sadist crushed a bit their reputation and added a more modern touch and “sell out” influences to their next two albums; at this point I lost my admiration for this underestimated band.

Finally in 2007 they returned with their 5th album, simply called Sadist and fortunately all the old sadistic trademarks were also back and after that break of 7 years the members have grown technically, musically and spiritually towards each other creating and fulfilling the ultimate Sadist metal. Now after another 3 years of patience the last and one of the best records in the Sadist collection has been released.

A fully rain shower of technical interlopes between drums, bass and guitar is wetting my body, a razor sharp and very well executed vocalist Trevor is adding the dots to the “I” on this new one, bring back the good old days of the first records, but still paying attention to the later works of the band and all in favour of the outstanding great musicianship these four piece are up to. Trevor’s vocals are adding once more the soft black metal touch to the overall very intelligent and progressive melodic death metal of these Italian mobsters. Supporting small keyboard details, which are also performed live by the guitarist Tommy, transfers this music even more towards the technical borders of the death metal. When you want to name some drops or drop some names think of a Nocturnus, Cynic, Sadus or an Atheist; but still you don’t label them correct, while getting cold from the rain you are powered by their precise and complex riffs, innovative structures and the gift to write and create atmosphere not just songs and loose drops. Every part is logical, weird, signature changing, but all with a reason and leading straightforward to songs, which off course ask some attention and studying from their listener. Once you have given yourself completely you will be rewarded by their unique and sadistic atmosphere through their progressive mathematical melodic death metal.

Sadist has proven that they are more than skilled to compete with the master’s of the technical death metal scene: A dazzling jazzing full metal experience, let the rain fall down on me…

Sometimes they come back, this time the season is right to be above one of the lightning stars in the death metal scene. CHECK THEM OUT!!!
