SEVEN WITCHES INTERVIEW 24-05-11

1.Four years have passed since the last full length release 'Deadly Sins".What took you so long to hit the studio?
Witches was on hiatus for a little while. I, as well, as other members of the current line-up, was also pretty busy working on other projects. Also, like any great record, the recipe calls for lots of patience, time, and excellent song writing if its to be worth waiting for. And this definitely is. This new album is like a fine wine- took a few years to become perfection, but it is delightful to finally get to experience (haha)!
2.June third is the release date for the new album "Call Upon the Wicked".Tell us more about this-what should we expect from 2011 SEVEN WITCHES?
When given the chance, one will truly be able to feel the blood, sweat and tears that went into making this latestrecord. Sometimes it takes a while to put out an album that can stand the test of time, We are extremely happy with it, and confident the fans will be amazed. Its just a kick ass metal record. I can say that I believe 2011 will be another memorable year for Witches.

3.James Rivera back in the fronts and SEVEN WITCHES re-united for the 10th anniversary. How exciting is for all of you to hit the studio for one more time withthe old line up?
Well, it’s been great working with James again, but it’s not really the” old line up”. We have gone through many changes over the years to get to this point. Witches has been around since 1998-1999, when we put out “Second War in Heaven”, so technically it is a 13th year anniversary haha…But as far as it being exciting to get back in the studio with James and the other guys, well, it’s like the feeling you get when reunite with the hot girl you banged in high school LOL Really, it was a lot of time and work, but awesome to get back to working on Wiches again.
4. Tell us a little bit more about the album. Is it realy a concept album?
The album is definitely a concept record, the concept being that women are the succubus LOL…Ok really its about mythical, wicked women who made life hell for man. How a woman’s beauty or influence can be so deceiving, and the soul beneath the exterior is evil and self serving. These women of legend include Eve, Lillith and Helen of Troy specifically, but pretty much all the songs relate to how weak and stupid men can become when they fall prey to the power of a woman.
5. The title is "Call upon the Wicked". How did you come up with this?
To be honest, it just came to me. As we were working on the record, it just seem to fit. It really was a process of everything coming together.
6. The world suffers from economic, moral and physical disasters...how does this fact drive your inspiration?
I guess in some way it drives me to want to play and write even more, because while the world suffers, my guitar gently weeps, and I love every minute of it. I totally use music as an escape form the mercilessness and disasters that go on in the world. Sometimes you can take bad situations in life, and turn them into songs and music that express them, but yet music gives it a theatrical feel. Just like musicians pull form their personal life to write great music, I suppose that the world influences us too. Music for me is pleasure, pain, frustration, elation,…hey, kinda like a what a woman causes a man haha

7. What's the message that SEVEN WITCHES bring to the world via "Call upon the wicked"?
As I said before, women are the devil, and that is our message LOL. Basically it’s the myths behind sinful woman, who turned man against man, and man against himself.
To maybe relate it to the world today, I would say that so many people these days easily turn to the “dark side” from greed and power, and become part of the wicked. Gotta be careful what you wish for, or in this case, call upon….
8. How would you describe this album synthetically and lyrically?
The record’s lyrics were the icing on the cake. They were carefully thought out to capture the essence of the album. Between James, Mike, and myself, we bounced lyrics around until they became one with the music.
9 .With Rivera back, new album being released in a few days, perhaps a worldtour that has been already scheduled...the celebration for the 10thanniversary sounds "explosive"!
What follows next?Perhaps another DVD?
Yes we definitely plan to do a world tour once “Call Upon the Wicked” is released everywhere, and honestly, it will be a blast to get back out there with Witches and play for all the fans who have been waiting patiently for some new material. The new stuff is killer, and combined with 7W classic tunes, touring is something I am looking forward to.
10. When will we -in Greece- have the chance to finally see you perform? Is Greece one of your next stops?
Actually, Witches did play in Greece during the “Year of the Witch” tour a while back with Overkill and Destruction. We love Greece, James and I. The fans are out of control, and the country is breath taking. We have also played there countless times with other projects we were involved in. So yes, we would absolutely come to Greece again and can’t wait to see you all there!
