CEPHALIC CARNAGE - MISLED BY CERTAINTY

RELAPSE RECORDS 2010
Release: Â Â Â 31-08-2010
Origin: Â Â Â USA
Length: Â Â Â 0:50:++
Sunday afternoon and it is time to re-arrange, manage, register, clean, file and store all the new CD’s in the collection again, especially when daily CD’s arrive by post, mail-order, online and from the normal stores. The collection is growing enormous and also the work that a collector’s life is demanding; but I am not complaining I have a huge collection that I am fucking proud to, so while being occupied on Sunday afternoon, also some metal must guide me through my monthly business. Let’s file the new Cephalic Carnage.
First way to store this new CD is off course grindcore, or even better technical grindcore. When Relapse is taking care of the back stamps on the CD, quality and intelligence can be used to describe this new acquisition in the collection. Apart from this fact Cephalic Carnage has already established their name in this genre of the metal scene and also in my personal collection.
But not only grindcore will cover this certainty CD, you will be misled by all the other influences ranging from several styles, which can be retraced on this album, so to file it under death metal (Morbid Angel riffs), doom metal (Some great slow parts), sludge, hardcore or metal core or whatever more (is less) is also more than reasonable. The only negative about this melting pot of styles is that the songs are varying too much and that your attention goes from all these diverse styles within your personal CD collection and that you prefer to take out your personal favourites within every genre. The overall picture of this album becomes too average to be added to your top 10 or 100 or 1000 depending on your total collection quantity. Just a great riff or song part doesn’t make a complete album stand out.
Fans of Cephalic Carnage, which have all their albums in the collection and especially the last “Xenosapien” album, should certainly make space for this new one also. When you are into diverse, barrier and genre breaking grindcore with a good production and sound (even when the promo is low resolution and filled with bleeping ringing telephones), brilliant or crazy breaks, changes, interludes and cool melodies, you need to add this one also.
When you are a huge Relapse Records fan and enjoy their twisted and unique choice in the extreme(st) part of the metal scene, you can easily add also “Misled by Certainty” in your CD list and wait for the release end of august.
When you are already collecting and looking out for another hundred or more other releases to add to your collection (like me) it is better to invest your hard-earned money in other Relapse releases or other metal diamonds, which need to shine in your collection.
The new cephalic Carnage won’t shine in my collection: too average, too diversely styled metal, but grinded with quality, technique and intensity.
Unfortunately it will be filed and never come out again!
