When a new album from the masters of the limbonic inspired black metal art is released on the birthday of your blackened mighty sister, than all prospects are forecasting a dark, sunless and cold summer. Hail to Daemon for returning after more than 3 years, all alone, to deliver us once more the ultimate legacy of Evil in the form of “Phantasmagoria”.

As mentioned before Daemon returns alone this time, while former member Morfeus is occupied with his other bands and projects. Both icons of the black metal scene have created milestones with several bands and also together as Limbonic Art have delivered, up till now, 6 black metal dynasties with outstanding unique and classic symphonies inspired black metal.

The question is: now that Limbonic Art is divided, will this also influence their music.

The sound is still drenched in black metal; furious overall faster black metal is created here with a sharp and harsh black metal sound. While promotional copies only can be downloaded and played by the computer it is more difficult to hear through and filter out the exact sound, but overall it seems, that the sound is supporting and bearing the intensity and extremity Limbonic Art wants to display. The unique ideas and symphonic classical structures are still used and woven in the songs and the total “Phantasmagoria” album. While the focus is more on the darker side of black metal, performed extremely, these classic influences and compositional inspirations will come up after severe listening and intense album use.

The basic instruments guitar, drums and bass are placed forward in the total sound picture of the album, while the important keyboards and symphonic effects are still performed, but playing a “reserved” role in the background. Overall this creates blackened inspired songs and when the atmosphere is taking over the extremity of the songs, than Limbonic Art reminds me of the more well known and established acts of the scene. At last the vocals don’t leave much darkspace for genre strange trips or melodic normal sung lyrics (Now and then like Nachtmystium psychedelics); in the vein of the total album Daemon is grasping, screaming and shrieking you into a scary and horrible world, where there is no light to shine, just the purest form of nocturnal phantasm.
